Christmas is in South Africa, not to knap!
I was always told that Christmas is celebrated and not so
basically I was disturbed not the idea, because at about 35 degrees in the shade I think
rarely to hot chocolate and candlelight. In fact
were then Alta du Toit Centre on time on 1 November, the
Christmas cds and dusted Christmas tree ornaments from the boxes and since then
residents and staff can not be stopped. Every centimeter is used to free him to hang
with any kind of kitschy glitter stuff and not a day goes by roars from the
at least once Jingle Bells from the loudspeakers of the stereo. The Jan
and I (totally traumatized) add the whole thing with only moderate enthusiasm
people can not understand. Posted by Katrina to nurse
November Begin: "If you do not now come into the Christmas spirit, it is too late in December!"
Why? No idea, but we have to give up to challenge such statements, there
cultural barriers that can not be overcome ....
Fortunately the approaching Christmas season brings many new important tasks with them, so
the occupational therapy has a positive effect on our trauma.
the one in december it will be a market on the alta du toit terrain. This requires
Christmas cards, wrapping paper, geschenktueten etcpp be produced.
I even thought about knitting a few nikolaeuse, maybe they are so good.
I'm also tinkering with this card for a week with the clients, it is important for
them that they can take something home with you.
begin here in early December, the long summer holidays, then of course a lot about
go home for Christmas. Unfortunately, there are clients who do not have more family or do not go out any other reason
home. for them there will be a special program
. Jan and I have since also been thinking a couple of little things. among other things, we do
biscuits and bake them for a Christmas party for they organize.
there was also still rumors that the nurses perform a drama and do jan and I
should be involved. But I have now heard nothing for some time, let's see what it is.
Jan is currently busy train 2 clients from another work area for a 10 km run.
It is taken to ensure that clients move enough and therefore is a jog of Charlotte
staff every Monday to Wednesday with a produce even larger group.
course the participants are on different levels? and so Jan has assigned two to get the train with them
separately. On 2 December there will then be ready. It is in one 10 km
running in Bellville whose itinerary is proceeding even over our terrain. The 4 are of course in this case be
and Katrin and I support them of course. Since'm looking forward to it.
The last weekend was very eventful.
On Friday, we have not worked since Katrina are invited to Open Day at the Oasis Special School has
. She works as an assistant in a school for children with intellectual impairment. Assistant
is good, I once had the luck to be allowed to visit them and it looked a bit like this as they would
as throwing the classroom, the teacher is probably not so good.
The Open Day was certainly very interesting, although not as many people as were as expected. There were also relatively
many important representatives as to the GNP of the Absa bank and a large hotel chain (Protea) as I have noticed the
they attack the school financially, in their arms.
I am almost a little jealous of Katrina, the children are wonderful, I have my two visits there
enjoyed it.
In the evening we went to Betty, was a nurse and confidant our No. 1 pick in the center,
because they had us for a braai evening, organized by her nephew in Gordons Bay.
We have made a stop at her home so I could see her two new puppies
(two Jack Russell terrier with the name "Jack" und "Russel") ....das musste ich jetzt erwaehnen,
keine gute Nachricht was because he had nothing prepared for this eventuality. Since I had brought but corn and garlic butter
was not a problem. We had a nice round, Betty's son was there with his girlfriend and her daughter
with her boyfriend. Overall a very nice evening.
Rod On Sunday, a pastor from Bellville, with Katrina, Jan and I went to a church in Nyanga.
was supposed to be the service entirely in Xhosa. Rod is aushilfpfarrer and attacks the church
under the arms, as they have many organizational problems. Finally, it was a case of
Korruptio, as so often. Since not much Rod Xhosa dominated all have to make do with English and for Jan, Katrin and me at the end
of course also suitable, although it is exciting and beautiful to listen to us unknown language.
was sung in Xhosa, and of course a lot and we sing it we can not take and at the end we even
mitgetanzt. The music is like therapy for people to be when they start
there is no holding back, they are dancing between benches, throwing her arms in the air .... just imagine the
in a German church before .. ..
The church service has dropped me in general totally good, although I found some sentences a little questionable.
But it was, for example, hope, and we should talk to our neighbors about Bank
have hope and later some of the participants about their Hope said, that was very interesting. Then we are
drove to Khayelitsha because Rod had a meeting. It's always interesting to go
through the townships, which act as their own small towns for themselves. Rod has told us much about the
houses and history. It can live for Eurpaer amazing how people in small corrugated iron shacks
. How do they cope with life without the conveniences we are used to?
I often think of these people when it rains in torrents outside. According to Rod, many of the people in the
Shacks (English: barrack, shack) live a relatively well-paid job but there are no houses in which they can draw. That was the way,
the hope of a woman in the church, a school teacher! She would like to find a good home .......
mitlerweile are already back on last two weeks and we're up to their necks in Christmas preparations. Now, Jan
has also managed to capture anything more moderate gastrointestinal virus, which for me means double the work.
Since the other work groups are all in the preparations, we also got more work tw. For example, we should
times decorate just the way 40 plastic boxes (with our valuable Prit and our valuable
Weihnachtsgeschnekpapier!) disappointing was that a woman has called on Monday the 50! wanted to have our Christmas cards .....
in itself a great thing, but it is more than half of our stock for the upcoming market, and on it went
has me really excited. Runs not as much good as it should. The market is on 4 and 5 December at the
Alta du Toit held terrain. Friday from 9 to 20, and Saturday from 9 to 16 clock. One of the staff, who organized the market
extra organized a fundraising breakfast at the market to better plan and organize.
must end, so they use the money now not won for that. But Jan and I can not take our enthusiasm and have We already signed up for sale. Just as we have seen to it that now but many maps are made.
Ina has always afraid that we're stuck with the cards, if few people come but in the end we have, I think, nothing to lose.
come when many people like it, then we will sell a lot and make it even advertising and if not, we have stock for larger orders. Sometimes it bugs me indecision. On the one hand they want to sell the products, on the other hand, there is a little afraid to come hinterherzu or whatever, I do not know yet what it really is.
another topic.
The dolls are made. Heavy heart. Wednesday was the Women of Straatwerk with us and we have handed over to her dolls.
Here again the link to the project:
The woman did (sorry, forgot her name, I'm sorry but I must remember sooo many names, the can not be done!) has picked up the doll was very nice. She explained all my knitting group, why they need the dolls
so it was wonderful for us to see how happy the clients were identified as they the importance of the dolls are
for the project. The goal needed to give them the feeling of being, was therefore achieved in any case.
And I've grown in the project (only because I do not knit I learned ;-)) The only fly in the ointment
was that Lili has started it all with could not be there. But we have
very thought of her doll and even a doll who has finished her with the picture :-)
above from left to right: Women of Straatwerk, Alta, Joani, is Rika, Amori, Theresa and Nanette (with Lili doll) ;-)
So my dears, that was part of a
tomorrow or later in the week there is a small Fortsaetzung: David, Jaco and I
from left to right below!
Greetings from the rather warm Bellville
